About the work
Age: 18+
“My mother thought that stripping would be the end of the world.”
STRIPPER is an autobiographical contemporary dance solo that explores the body as a workplace, a political site, and a creative force. Rooted in over a decade of the artist’s experience in sex work alongside her career in contemporary dance, it treats the theatre stage and the strip club not as opposites, but as a method. The hypothetical discussion of morality becomes intimate reality as the words of the artist and her mother unfold and confront a personal manifesto. Blending movement, text, humour, and unapologetic vulnerability, STRIPPER unsettles inherited ideas of desire, labour, and morality, insisting on the body as more than a commodity while inviting audiences to question the systems that teach us how to look.
Be Kompanijos is an independent contemporary dance arts organization founded in 2019 by choreographers Agnietė Lisičkinaitė and Greta Grinevičiūtė. The organization is engaged in producing dance artists’ performances and managing their dissemination in Lithuania and abroad, bringing together more than 20 independent creators.
