Agnietė Lisičkinaitė and Greta Grinevičiūtė – DANCE FOR A 1000 YEARS (Dance Well project)
Duration: 30 min
How many times have you danced the ‘victory dance’? How often have you walked the ‘waltz step’ in your life? In everyday language, we use many expressions that bring dance closer to our lives, but how often do we really dare to dance? What is dance for everyone? And what if dance were everywhere?
In ‘Dance for a 1000 Years’, choreographers Greta Grinevičiūtė and Agnietė Lisičkinaitė invite the audience on an extraordinary journey where the boundaries of dance dissolve, and what we see as everyday movement becomes a form of artistic expression. Drawing on the everyday experiences and personal stories of seniors, the choreographers aim to reveal each person’s life as a story filled with hidden choreographic possibilities.
Every gesture here becomes a dance that is often overlooked. In this dance miniature, the choreographers try to dissolve the boundary between “them” and “us” – between the professional and the everyday, between the often marginalised, unnoticed elderly and the “active” members of society. In this dance miniature, the choreographers seek to erase the boundary between “them” and “us” — between the professional and the everyday, between the elderly, often overlooked by society, and the “active” members of society. In this way, the audience is invited into a new space of understanding, where dance, transcending the limits of artistic expression, becomes a universal experience of human connection. A new way to waltz through life together.
The contemporary dance miniature ‘Dance for a 1000 Years’ was created as part of the international project Dance Well. Through creative processes, contemporary dance techniques, and international collaboration, the project seeks to foster social inclusion for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, encourage cultural dialogue, and strengthen the role of culture as a means of (self-)support.
