Association “Fish Eye”: Mariya Salo and Petras Lisauskas (Ukraine, Lithuania) – INSOMNIA

The joint work of Lithuanian and Ukrainian sound creators and dancers – performance INSOMNIA, created in Lviv under the rocket fire as well as in Paris after fleeing the danger of war and in Lithuania, a country very much aware and promptly providing help. A few months of the creative process for the artists being separate and seeing each other only with the help of Zoom platform, not even knowing if it will be possible to show the performance live in the end. This creative process was accompanied by four creators Yana Shliabanska and Mariya Salo from Ukraine and Donatas Bielkauskas and Petras Lisauskas from Lithuania.

The idea of insomnia became the creative axis of this performance. Producer Goda Giedraitytė and sound artist Donatas Bielkauskas came up with the idea of connecting artists with different experiences and reflecting on the insomnia and anxiety they experience in the face of war. In cooperation with Viktor Ruban, a dance creator and producer from Ukraine, two Ukrainian creators were invited to join the project.

Sound interpretations on this topic, guided by personal experiences, were created by Yana Shliabanska in Paris, where she left after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, and Donatas Bielkauskas in Klaipėda. Their extremely strong music became the basis for the choreographic solutions of the two dancers. Petras Lisauskas rehearsed in Molėtai, and Mariya in Lviv under rocket fire. Having met in Lithuania at the beginning of November, they developed their solo parts together in Klaipėda, which finally united into a single 45-minute performance.
